Three pioneer sisters, Srs. Barbara Miensopust, Theresa Tawiah, and Rosalia Galmin, landed their feet for the first time in Kingston, the capital city of the “REGGAE COUNTRY” JAMAICA on August 3rd, 2012. The sisters were “WELCOMED” by Father Frank Power, SVD, as he took them to their assigned mission location, Morant Bay, St. Thomas, on the same day.
The next day, Bro. Bernie Spitzley took the sisters, walk -less than 5 minutes to the market for shopping. The market itself, located at the city of Morant Bay, the capital city of the civil parish of St. Thomas. Customers and people of St. Thomas packed in a store, were watching Summer Olympic held in London. Usain Bolt, a Jamaican, break a record as the fastest runner in the world. The whole Jamaicans were celebrating, and the newly arrivals (the sisters) were happily joined the crowed.
The next day, the sisters visited the school, the new and first Catholic school in the parish of St. Thomas. And the works began there, as well in social and pastoral ministry in the parish, while slowly but surely learning the new culture, traditions, and language, and the rest.
Our Lady of the Assumption Preparatory School has officially opened on September 3, 2012 with 7 students. The school is growing gradually since then. At the present we have 110 students enrolled, from the ages of 3 to 11 years old.
Religious Education is implemented as one of the special learning subjects, where moral discipline and other Christian values are being taught while the school is enhancing an academic excellent of each student.
The social and pastoral ministry opens ways to give and to receive, to share and to be enriched by the sharing of the people. Since 2021, the mission has been extended to the catechetical ministry in the Archdiocese of Kingston, where the faith formation of everyone is the key to live and bring the Kingdom of God on ward.
