at Vivat International (USA)

VIVAT International is a Non-Governmental Organization, founded by the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) and the Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit (SSpS), with a membership of more than 17,000 from 12 Catholic Religious Congregations, working in 121 countries to promote human rights through advocacy at international and local levels. It has Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and is associated with the United Nations Department of Global Communications (DGC).

Founding Congregations

The Founding Congregations of VIVAT International are the two congregations that formed VIVAT International in November 2000, namely, the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) and the Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit (SSpS). By virtue of their membership in these two congregations, all their members are Founding Members of VIVAT International.

At this kairos moment, VIVAT International is responding to the call for healing in our relationships with God, our neighbors, and the Earth itself. Through the VIVAT Laudato Si’ Action Plan, we are walking the “path to renewal” together (LS 202), collaborating with the Vatican, the international coalition of Catholic organizations, and “all men and women of goodwill (LS 3)."

Taking a truly ground-up approach, VLSAP is rooted in the strengths and realities of communities around the world, empowering all to take “decisive action, here and now” as we journey towards a better future together (LS 161).

Sharing a vision of the world and every human being as created in goodness and dignity and believing, defending and proactively supporting the equality in rights and the dignity of all individuals, peoples, and cultures. VIVAT’s presence at the UN envisages attaining a world of equality, justice, reconciliation, peace, and care for the environment.

  • Work with persons and groups who live in poverty of any kind and share in their efforts to restore and preserve well-being, dignity, and freedom.
  • Promote human rights, promote sustainable development, understanding, and harmony between peoples, cultures, classes, religions, and beliefs; strive towards creating a world society and local communities that encourage the inclusion and participation of all.
  • Work for ecological sustainability, the protection of biodiversity, and the preservation of the planet’s richness for future generations.

The HSLLC is a 501 (c)(3) organization; donations made to the HSLLC are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
